Stavroz was formed in 2011 by IJsbrand & Gert, both dj’s and sound engineers looking for a way to channel their musical antics. Soon thereafter, Maxim & Pieter joined on live shows and in the studio. Their first EP release “The Ginning” was picked up on international blogs, resulting the highest position on the Hype Machine and was chosen vinyl of the month by the German ‘Faze Magazine’. Back home in Belgium, they were awarded second best breakthrough artist, coming in just after Oscar & The Wolf.
Known for injecting an overall ethnic, acoustic and organic vibe to electronic music, these four friends pocketed releases for Kindisch, Laut & Luise, Bedrock and their own label ‘Moodfamily’ in Ghent. Their intimate live set and unique dj sets were quickly picked up, sending them on regular trips abroad. Only to return home for some Fifa and their weekly show on Belgian National alternative radio ‘Studio Brussel’ where they display an uncanny ability to combine the old with the new and the East with the West. Their acclaimed latest release “Talabout” brings you where no one ever goes to, a destination unreachable by common means, but a place blurring the lines between having a dream and a state of mind.
Stavroz manage to create a wholesome, comforting soundtrack for a place, which no words can describe. Take a rest, lay down, close your eyes and listen to a story told in an orchestral fashion, with such profession and ear for details. Stavroz is something different.
Viken Arman, along with a generation of like-minded artists, is pushing the boundaries of electronic music not only towards the future, but also towards the past. Fusing ancient melodies with electronic beats to create magical vibes that go beyond dance music brings rich cultures together in mystical musical journeys.
As a musician, Arman has a rich background of influences growing up with jazz and classical music.
His knowledge of piano as well as his time at the music conservatory contributed to his wide musical culture. He draws influence from a very versatile music background from Keith Jarett, Erik Satie, Bill Evans, Jay Dilla, Ricardo Villalobos to the Arabic diva Oum Khalthoum. This is not quite your standard iTunes playlist.
When he’s not making music, Viken focuses his energy to support and nurture this particular and rich music scene even further. After being active several years on the French scene, he just founded Denature Record which, as he describes it, is more than just a label but more of a family of artists. He also pledged to support young and upcoming talents from around the world as well as organizing his own events with “SOUQ”.
Viken Arman just released his very own EP ‘Sireli’ on the Denature Records and it’s everything we wanted it to be. A magical ride of grooves and melodies taking us on a journey across cultures and years. With its jazzy yet ethnic but electronic vibes, Sireli is a timeless classic EP from Viken Arman, expect to hear it a lot in the upcoming year if you choose your dancefloors correctly.
I am LUM. I will always be a child. A tribute to the wisdom and medicine of the native peoples.
Born in Argentina and based in Riviera Maya, LUM has spent his life steeped in indigenous cultures. This is reflected in his music which is equal parts electronic and world music. The end result is more magical than anything else.
LUM is above all a spiritual encounter, a ritual séance for the acquisition of one’s essence, a ceremony. In a way, it's also a therapy alleviating personal sorrows and, well, by extension, mitigating the civilizational predicaments. To a certain degree, it's a course in tribal culturology. Fundamentally, it is LUM's dream.
